Frequently Asked questions
How do I sell at Cute as New?
Schedule a time to leave up to 2 grocery bags of kids’ clothing at our South Orange shop. Or you can schedule a pickup for a small fee.
Within 2 weeks after your appointment, we’ll email you an offer for the items we’d love to have in our collection.
If you’re on board, we’ll pay you in cash or store credit before entering the pieces into inventory.
If not, you can take your bags home. Or, if you're a South Orange/Maplewood resident, we can return them for a small delivery fee.
In addition, we can donate or recycle unwanted items on your behalf.
How much will I get for the items I sell?
As a seller, you’ll get 25% of our tag price in cash or 40% in store credit, whether your stuff sells or not!
How long does my store credit last?
Right now, our store credit never expires.
How much does each item sell for?
We sell our inventory for anywhere between 40-80% off their original retail prices, depending on their condition.
Do you negotiate?
Out of fairness to all our clients, we don’t negotiate pricing, but we make sure we’re in line with South Orange and Maplewood resale standards.
When/how will I get paid?
You’ll get paid via Zelle, direct deposit or digital check when you accept the offer. We can also write a paper check upon request.
What sizes do you carry?
Our clothes range from 0-6T, and our shoes range from newborn to 12.5.
What brands do you carry?
We don’t have specific brand requirements, but we prefer clothing in near-mint condition.
If it’s current, cute, and has lots of life left, we’re likely to welcome it.
That said, we’re especially eager to buy brands that hold up well and can sell at prices that honor both buyer and seller.
Additionally, we don’t buy branded collateral like school/camp merchandise due to their limitations for reuse.
Are there other requirements for selling items?
For a first-rate shopping experience, we avoid weathered, tired, outdated, soiled, stained, or incomplete items. This may include unmatched pajamas and tags labeled with permanent markers. Name stickers are fine if they can be removed.
Do you accept toys or baby supplies?
Not at this time!
What happens to the items you don’t accept?
You can either bring them home, or we can donate them on your behalf. We work with amazing Essex County organizations like Moms Helping Moms that dress our community’s children, as well as Helpsy, a certified B Corp and Public Benefit Corporation with a mission to keep clothes out of the trash in New Jersey and beyond.
Can I shop online?
Hopefully soon! We love getting to know our clients in person, so we’re focusing on creating the sweetest resale experience at our South Orange shop. But we look forward to serving you online very soon!
Want to shop online? Join our waitlist to be first in line.
Do you offer personal styling services?
Yes! We know outfitting kids can be tricky, so our team can hunt for whatever color, pattern, sizes, texture your picky dresser prefers.
How does the personal styling work?
When you book an appointment at our South Orange shop, we’ll ask a few questions to understand your little one’s taste. We’ll then pull inventory to curate a collection of hand-picked goodies to show you at your session.

A family business born & bred in New Jersey
We’re a mother/daughter/aunt trio with deep New Jersey roots — four generations strong and a history of family businesses behind us.
We know it takes a village to raise kids and just as much heart to build a business. And we believe that the same village can spark the change needed for a brighter future.
That’s why we’re on a mission to make sustainable shopping simple, right here in our own backyard.
"The store is so cozy, and the vibe is so boutiquey.
It doesn’t feel like a secondhand store. It feels like an adorable, chic kids' clothing store where everything is surprisingly affordable.”
- Lisa Bonnifield
